II. Meditation – Rev Eric Schmidt provided Acts 2:1-13 as scripture in preparation for Pentecost.
III. Business
a. Church Service/Sunday School Time Changes – Glenda provided information on the time schedules for several of Warrensburg local churches. First Baptist and Northside Christian hold Sunday school, small groups and children’s programs simultaneously with their worship services. Northside posted on their website that the reason for changing their worship times was due to needing additional space for their small groups and room for their Early Childhood center expansion. First Christian and Grover Baptist have separate Sunday School times.
Mike Cassidy proposed that we continue offering Sunday School for youth at 10:45 in response to the increased attendance at that time. A proposal was also made to move Preschool - Grade 5 Sunday School to 10:45 to accommodate an all-ages children's worship service at 9:30 in the FLC. Adult Sunday School classes would be offered at both times. A motion was made by Larry Bryan to leave service and Sunday School times as they currently are at 9:30 and 10:45. Motion was seconded and passed.
b. Multi Site Ministry—Several members expressed concern regarding the upcoming meeting with Bob Farr scheduled for May 25th. They don’t feel that anything will be accomplished from meeting with Mr. Farr. They also disagree with how things were handled in that proper protocols were not followed in that an Annual Conference representative and/or Cody Collier did not address the council directly. Rev Haynes expressed that what we experienced was Conference protocol. Other members expressed their interest in attending and hearing what Mr. Farr has to say regarding the multi-site. Judy Vickrey will write a letter to be forwarded to the Bishop expressing member’s concerns. She will allow the council chair and members to review the letter prior to it being sent. Rev Haynes volunteered to make an announcement during both church services to inform members of the pending site.
IV. Pastor/Associate Pastor Comments. Rev. Dr Haynes made the following statements for consideration:
-How do we change to be a church that is seen as an evangelistic change agent?
-If we’re not invited into the process of a new church coming to town, then let’s choose our own stance. Who do we want to be with regards to this church?
-What do we need to do to become a church where pastors want to stay?
-How to create a good atmosphere for incoming pastors?
V. Next Meeting: Monday, July 12th, 2010, 7:00 PM
VI. Dismissal Prayer/adjournment wasgiven by Rev. Dr. Sally Haynes.
